Serious Accident with Entrapment

Around 1:30 this morning, Station 53, Medic 91 and Station 55 EMS were dispatched to West Street Road in Westtown Twp for a serious accident with possible entrapment. Police and EMS units arrived quickly and confirmed one person was heavily trapped in a vehicle that had left the roadway, struck a tree and was down an embankment. The incident location was changed to S. New Street, north of Rt. 926. Rescue, Engine and Squad 53 responded with 8 volunteers. Once on scene, crews quickly worked to remove doors, the roof and displace the dash forward to free the victim within 22 minutes of Rescue 53s arrival. Fame crews assisted EMS with victim removal in a stokes basket. The victim was transported to the local trauma center for definitive care. Rescue 25 (Longwood) was requested as a second rescue company in anticipation of a prolonged extrication. The victim was safely removed from the vehicle as Rescue 25 arrived in scene. West Chester Fire Police assisted Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police while they investigated the accident.
