Thinking About Volunteering?
The Fame Fire Company is always looking for help, whether it be as a firefighter/rescuer, assist with office work and fundraising or as an associate member. This is a great way to support the volunteer fire and rescue system AND support your community. If you ever thought about becoming a firefighter/rescuer, now is your chance to make it happen! We are looking for people who are committed to learning and helping others, who have a varied background, but a hard work ethic. Regardless of the location of your residence within the township, we encourage you to explore the membership at our station. Are YOU ready for a challenge??
If you're interested in becoming a member of our family and serve your community, stop by on Thursday nights at 6:30 pm and ask to speak to the Captain.
Time Commitment & Training:
Being a volunteer firefighter involves a greater time commitment than many applicants may first realize. During the first 6 months of your probationary period, an apprentice firefighter must be able to make the following time commitments:
- Basic Firefighter Training,
- Drills held on Thursday nights and an occasional Saturday,
- Other times as deemed necessary.
Newly admitted probationary firefighters are required to attend a 176 hour NFPA Firefighter 1 course, within the first 12 months of membership. The Firefighter 1 course is taught at Chester County Pulic Safety Training Center in South Coatesville, and is the entry-level basic training course. Upon successful completion you will receive the NFPA Firefighter 1 certification. Firefighter 1 program teaches firefighters skills that emphasize safe practices in a constantly changing emergency environment. Successful completion of the Academy is mandatory.
The Fame Fire Co. has scheduled weekly training sessions every Thursday night. The first Thursday night of each month is the company monthly meeting. However, training is a continuous process and never ends! Small group and individual training is strongly encouraged. Specialized training in swiftwater rescue and various technical rescue skills is made available to those who demonstrate a desire and willingness to put in the time to be one of the best!
We look forward to receiving your application. If you have any questions, please feel to contact the Captain's office, 610-692-5404 Ext. 5 or the membership committee at firstname.lastname@example.org.
