Fame Fire Company Active Firefighters Have Reached 100% Pennsylvania State Certification!!!

Fame Fire Company has become the FIRST (1st) All-Volunteer Fire Company in Chester County and the fifth (5th) all-volunteer fire company in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to achieve 100% state certification in the voluntary state certification program.  The 49 Active Firefighters have participated in a Voluntary Pennsylvania State Certification Process following guidelines from the National Fire Protection Association, and recently achieved 100% fire professional certification.

To achieve this goal, in 2007 the 49 active firefighters attended numerous training classes in firefighting, rescue and special hazards that totaled more than 10,000 hours in preparation for the written and practical skills competency validation of the National Firefighter Standards.

Fame Fire Company is proud to be the first All-Volunteer Fire Department in Chester County and the 5th out of 2,500 fire departments to receive 100% certification.  Fame is the 29th overall fire department out of 466 other departments that are participating in the certification process.

W.C.F.D. Mixes It Up On The Field

Monday, September 1st 2008

Fame was challenged to a football game on Labor Day by our fellow brothers at the Goodwill Fire Company at Henderson High School. Both companies showed up in full force to play, rehab, or cheer on the teams as they played in the hot sunshine. Fame ran out of time to score one final touchdown to win the game, and both teams left the field with the score tied 21-21. (Battalion 105. If you don't know, don't ask!)

Major Gas Leak Shuts Down Parts of West Chester Borough.

July 25th, 2008

Fame with Goodwill, and First West Chester responded to the 100 block of E. Miner St Friday morning at around 9:30AM to a report of a gas leak outside. Arriving units found that a contractor hit a rather large high pressure gas line, and gas was quickly entering the houses in the area. Seeing that this was a large leak, Chief 53 (McCarthy) quickly called for additional resources from surrounding companies, and fire police to shut down several streets in West Chester. Fire crews were ordered to evacuate everyone within a two block radius of the leak. PECO arrived, and clamped the leak within an hour. Fire units remained on scene checking houses in the area with gas meters to monitor the air, and ventilate if needed. Fire units cleared the scene at approx. 2:30 PM. Units from Goshen, Kennett Square, East Whiteland, West Whiteland, West Bradford, Newtown Square, Downingtown, Paoli, Uwchlan Ambulance, Delaware County Canteen 47, Good Fellowship, Medic 91, and Chester County Comm 1 were either on scene at the incident, or standing by at one of the three West Chester Companies. Fame Assists Goshen and West Whiteland on Rt. 202 Accident

July 23rd 2008

(Photos by Mike McCarthy)

An Allied Waste trash truck skidded off of Rt. 202 and crashed just north of King road in West Whiteland Wednesday, July 23rd. Goshen, and West Whiteland Fire Companies were dispatched.  Incoming units upon arrival found the truck in a cloud of heavy smoke. Thinking the truck could be on fire, Tanker 53 was added to the call for extra water. Once the smoke cleared, crews found the truck head first into heavy brush with the driver still trapped in the truck. Chief 54 (Everhart) called for Rescue 53 to assist with the extrication. The initial assignment for Fame's Rescue crew was to make an attempt to winch the truck away from the brush, but that plan was scrapped when crews from Goshen, West Whiteland, and East Whiteland (Sta. 5) were able to quickly remove the heavy brush surrounding the truck, and extracted the driver. Good Fellowship, and Medic 91 were also on the scene to assist with patient care. Fame units were on scene for about one hour and thirty minutes. Police are investigating what caused the truck to crash.
