Sunday April 6, 2014 at 5:45 pm, Stations 48, 49 and EMS units were dispatched to the Cornog Quarry in Wallace Twp for a "Rescue-fall from an elevation". Chester County Communications advised Chief 48 that there was a report of one victim that had fallen more than 50' along a steep cliffside and was stuck about 30' above the waterline. Additionally, reports were being received of at least one other person on the cliffside near the victim. Chief 48 requested a boat and the Rescue Task Force. Station 72 (CCRTF) and Boat 47 were dispatched. Units from Lionville, Fame, Longwood, Valley Forge and Medic 2 (Berwyn) arrived on scene. Boat 47-1(Lionville) launched and made verbal and visual contact with the victim. The Rope Rescue Task Force began the long trek through the heavily wooded area above the quarry and was guided to the area above the victim by the Boat 47 crew. A rescue plan was developed and Rope Rescue Technicians from 47 were lowered to the victims. A medic was also lowered to initiate care. The first victim was secured into a Stokes basket and lowered to Boat 47-1 who transported to awaiting EMS units at the boat launch. The second victim was secured in a harness and lowered with one of the rescuers to the boat, as well. All Rescue Task Force personnel, equipment and units were accounted for and returned to service. Crews worked seamlessly as darkness fell upon the scene. ATV units from Longwood and East Brandywine were a tremendous help in gaining access for crews and equipment. Fame units and personnel operated, as part of the Rescue Task Force, for more than two hours to help effect a successful rescue.
