This evening, Fame crews participated in the monthly "Technical Rescue Monday" training. This month's topic was confined space rescue. We were fortunate to be invited to conduct our training at a local chemical plant. The plant, Arkema Chemical, has a large vertical vessel that is being prepared for demolition. The scenario involved an employee who fell from his rope and became impaled by a rod within the vessel.

Crews from Rescue and Squad 53 were given assignments. Air monitoring and lock-out/tag-out was conducted. An entry team and back-up team was identified. The rigging team setup the rope system and artificial high directional (Arizona Vortex). Entry was made and the "victim" was freed from his impalement, secured on a rope system and was removed from the space.
Crews operated in a realistic setting with narrow, elevated walkways and needed to utilize fall protection (AZTEK Kits).

This was a very valuable and challenging training opportunity. Thank you to Assistant Chief Kevin Corcoran for obtaining this site for our technical rescue training.
