This afternoon, WCPD, WCFD Units from Station 51 and Station 53, along with EMS Units from Station 55 (Good Fellowship) and Medic 91 (Chester County Hospital Medics) were dispatched to the area of East Bradford Elementary School in East Bradford Township for a reported aircraft down. WCPD arrived and confirmed the report. Rescue 53 and Engine 51-1 responded and found a single engine aircraft that made an emergency landing in an open field adjacent to Rt 322 across from East Bradford Elementary School. The sole occupant, the pilot, was standing next to his aircraft and was uninjured. The aircraft struck a utility pole as he approached and the left wing was sheared off. WCFD units controlled a small fuel leak. West Chester Fire Police assisted with traffic control, as Rt 322 remained closed for several hours. The incident is being investigated by FAA officials. There were no injuries on the ground.
