At 1635 hours, the box alarm was struck for 890 S. Matlack Street at Jefferson Pointe Apartments for the building fire bringing Stations 51, 52, 53 and Tower 54. Assistant 53 arrived on scene with nothing evident. Ladder 53 and Engine 51-2 arrived and searched the second floor for a report of a smoke condition. After investigating for several minutes the source could not be found and units made themselves available.

As crews were packing up, crews were dispatched at 1700 hours for the dwelling fire on the 100 block of East Biddle Street. Engine 51-1 arrived on location with smoke showing Side D and went in service with a handline to the basement. Ladder 53 arrived and conducted a primary search of all floors which proved negative. Crews located an electrical box on fire with minor extension. Crews operated for roughly 45 minutes before returning back to quarters.
