At the dinner hour, Rescue 53 was dispatched to assist Station 36 (Po-Mar-Lin) at a working house fire. Rescue 53 made the response with five firefighters, arrived, and established RIT. Command eventually struck the 2nd Alarm and evacuated the building due to heavy fire through the roof and a partial collapse of the second floor. Firefighters put master streams into operations to fight the blaze. Rescue 53's crew operated for nearly three hours before returning back to the borough. Meanwhile, Engine 53 and the cover companies in Station 51 and 52 responded to the 600 Block of S Matlack Street for an oven fire. The fire was out on arrival and all companies returned.
