At 18:08 hours on a cold, frigid night, Station 53 along with units from Station 51 were dispatched to the 1100 Block of MacPherson Dr in West Goshen Township for the reported chimney fire. The homeowner advised CCFR that flames were visible from the top of the chimney. Chief 53 arrived and reported nothing showing. Engine 51-1 and Ladder 53 arrived simultaneously and sent crews to the interior to check for extension. Ladder 53 threw ground ladders to the roof and found the chimney to be charred at the top. The homeowner scaled the roof prior to the fire department's arrival and dowsed the flames with water. Due to icy roof conditions, Ladder 53 advanced into the driveway and extended its aerial device to better reach the chimney. Crews overhauled the chimney to check for extension which proved none.
