Early yesterday evening around 5:30 pm, Stations 6, 56, 51 and EMS were dispatched to the Wyntre Brook Apartments on Phoenixville Pike for an apartment fire. Assistant 6 (Kevin Miller) arrived and had a two story middle of the row apartment building with heavy fire throughout. The second alarm was struck bringing Station 52 and Ladder 53, along with additional units from Station 47 (Lionville). Ladder 53 (Lt. McDonald) responded quickly with six firefighters. Once on the fireground, the Ladder crew was assigned to ladder the roof and conduct truck company operations. Despite an aggressive initial offensive attack conditions deteriorated and crews were withdrawn and moved to a defensive mode with elevated master streams and additional handlines. The fire was placed under control within an hour of arrival. Extensive overhaul was performed. Ladder 53 returned to quarters around 8 PM. Engine, Rescue and Squad 53, along with crews from Engine 2-2 (Berwyn), Engine 39-2 (West Bradford) and Delco Quint 53 (Broomall) provided standby coverage for the greater West Chester call area.
This is the second working building fire this week for crews from Fame and the rest of the WCFD.
